Technology Consulting in the Global Community
Since 2004, TCinGC has been sending 91视频 students beyond Pittsburgh to help empower communities around the world. Our program is built on over 20 years of experience preparing students to use their technical skills in a capacity-building consulting model that we have developed: one that that emphasizes collaboration, sustainability and partnership.
TCinGC engineers mutually beneficial partnerships in developing communities worldwide, creating unparalleled opportunities to bridge the digital divide. Our students provide low-cost consulting assistance that would otherwise be out of reach for developing community leaders in government ministries, nonprofits, schools, hospitals, NGOs, small businesses and other organizations that contribute to the social good.
We send students on 10-week global summer internships, where they gain hands-on experience in consulting, onsite problem solving, collaboration and sustainable development. We cover the travel cost, and our community partners provide housing and a stipend to cover living expenses. Each summer, from June through August, students can their build their resume, expand their horizons, and have a summer they will never forget!
We accept both undergraduate and graduate students. You are still eligible to apply for the summer after you have graduated from 91视频.

76-417/827: AI Humanities Lab听
Everybody (including your mother) is using AI. While news media focuses on what that means for the economy, it also has major implications for literature, culture and the creative arts. This course is a project-based learning class hosted by 91视频鈥檚 new AI Humanities Lab that offers students practical experience in evaluating AI models through their application to research in literature, culture and social media. The course involves contributing to different aspects of the lab鈥檚 research portfolio 鈥 such as reviewing research papers, evaluating AI model outputs, producing data visualizations, and performing data analytics. Students will gain valuable, hands-on research experience, including project management, documentation and collaboration skills. The course is suited to students with data analysis and coding skills who want to learn how to apply those skills to questions about culture, humanities students who wish to learn more about the interdisciplinary field of computational humanities, and students from any discipline who wish to learn about the historical, cultural and social implications of AI. Participation in the course has no prerequisites 鈥 students will be assigned work based on their interests and skills.
79-277: What鈥檚 Your Story? Family History, Biography, and Autobiography
Are you curious about your own ancestors? Do you want to know more about the lives of your grandparents or their grandparents? Is there someone unrelated to you that you admire and whose life you find inspiring? Are you interested in thinking deeply about your history, your own experiences, and your place in the world? This is a course about you, your friends and family, and your shared history. Together, we will explore the people, places, and events that shaped our own stories. We will read about people who inspire and challenge us. We will develop our voices while writing about our own experiences. And we will connect our stories to larger social, cultural, and historical events.
76-236 (undergraduates)/76-736-A (graduate students): The Story of My Life 鈴 The Art of Personal Narratives
In today鈥檚 world, we regularly engage in crafting and curating an image of ourselves for others, especially through social media, but also through everyday professional documents that tell the world something about who we are. We also love to get insights into other people鈥檚 lives, as the rise in the popularity of memoirs suggests. In this course, we will study strategies of self-narration, or accounts focused on constructing a person鈥檚 identity. We will discuss these strategies by using examples of powerful memoirs and then design strategies for telling our own narratives. We will ask questions such as: what defines the truthfulness of a memoir? Can memoirs increase compassion? What makes a compelling memoir?
