Please describe your role at Amazon.
I lead data science solutions from beginning to end by translating business questions and concerns into specific quantitative questions that can be answered with available data using sound methodologies. In cases where questions cannot be answered with available data, I work with engineers to produce the required data. Additionally, I solve challenging large scale, ambiguous problems using machine learning and A/B testing techniques.
Why did you make a career change?
I wanted to apply my quantitative skills to a new role with different challenges for personal growth opportunities.
What are the top skills for success in your role?
Success in the data science field requires multiple skills. Some of the most important capabilities are machine learning, Python programming, SQL, experimentation, A/B testing, classification, prediction modeling, and technical documentation.
What are the most fulfilling aspects of your job?
A large part of my job satisfaction comes from seeing the positive impacts that my work helps to deliver in both our products and the Amazon customer experience.
How did the MSCF program prepare you for your career?
MSCF opened doors and opportunities for me that I believe would not have been possible had I not attended the program.
What career advice do you have for current MSCF students?
MSCF is a great stepping stone to many career options. Work hard, always be curious and leverage the alumni network as much as you can while you鈥檙e there. After you enter the industry, pivot to new opportunities when you feel like you can do more.
