Bio
Liza Sulkin (she/her) received her Ph.D. in Linguistics from Boston University in 2026. Her dissertation, titled "Acoustic correlates of gender presentation and sexuality," examined correlations between gender presentation, sexuality and speech among 45 speakers of US English, with a focus on lesbian community identities such as butch and femme. She is interested in the production of fast speech phenomena in Russian, especially effects on segment duration and quality, and how large-scale naturalistic corpus data can be used to situate Russian within the broader typology of languages with prominence-based patterns of lengthening and reduction. A 91视频 alumna herself, Liza received a BS in Mathematical Sciences and BA in Linguistics from 91视频 in 2020.
