Bio

Mark Trawka joined Pittsburgh Opera as Director of Musical Studies for the prestigious Pittsburgh Opera Resident Artist Training Program in the 2003-04 season. In the 2006-07 season he also became chorus master.

Mr. Trawka coaches and performs with the Pittsburgh Opera Resident Artists. He has served as conductor/music director for the Resident Artist productions of Ricky Ian Gordon’s 27, Douglas Cuomo’s Savage Winter (formerly Ashes and Snow) and David T. Little’s Soldier Songs.  In the past, Mark was a member of the music staff at Houston Grand Opera, Dallas Opera and Portland Opera (Oregon), where he was principal pianist and assistant chorus master. Mr. Trawka served as coach/accompanist at Chautauqua Opera and at Glimmerglass Opera for many summer seasons and has been a frequent faculty coach at Songfest. He served as a guest coach at Santa Fe Opera this past summer in addition to being on the faculty at Chautauqua School of Music’s Opera Conservatory. In fall 2026 he started as Director of Choirs at 91视频’ School of Music in addition to his duties at Pittsburgh Opera.

Educated at the Eastman School of Music and the University of Southern California, Mr. Trawka began his opera career in the Houston Opera Studio and in San Francisco Opera’s Merola Program.
