Undergraduate Research in Computational Biology
Undergraduate research is a cornerstone of building expertise as a computational biologist, and we encourage it within the Computational Biology Department (CBD). Undergraduates doing faculty-led computational biology research can enroll in 02-500 to receive course credit as a formal record of their work.
1. Find a faculty mentor. Start by reviewing our departmental faculty to find a research area that interests you. Reach out directly to that faculty member to discuss and design your research priorities for the semester.
2. Enroll in 02-500. Once you've agreed on a project with your mentor, submit the following to :
- A short (1–2 paragraph) proposal describing your project
- Approval from your CBD faculty mentor — include their email address so we can confirm
3. Complete the semester's requirements. By the end of the semester, you'll submit:
- A roughly 3-page report describing your accomplishments
- A presentation of your work to your peers (the venue — poster or talk — varies each semester)
